Liturgical Ministries

Church Music: The parish has a small but enthusiastic music group led by Susan Barry, our organist/pianist. They lead the congregation in singing all the Mass parts as well as the regular hymns. The music group includes two cantors who sing the responsorial psalm.

Major feast days and celebratory events are significantly enhanced by the contribution of the music group and their loyalty and commitment to their ministry are very much appreciated. From time to time new music is introduced to the congregation to further enrich these celebrations.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: At St Kentigern’s there is a team of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who assist the Parish Priest distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Every Sunday, and at other times as appropriate, they take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound of the parish and lead Liturgy of Word and Communion Services in the absence of the priest. If you know of anyone who is unable to attend Mass and who would like to receive Holy Communion at home, please contact the Parish Priest in the first instance.

Readers: The Readers proclaim the Word of God through Scripture Readings and Bidding Prayers at daily and Sunday Mass. The duties are generally between three readers at a Sunday Mass and the psalm is sung by a cantor. New readers are always welcome.

Altar Servers:The Church always needs altar servers to serve Mass and other services for the priest. Boys and girls who are interested should should have made their First Holy Communion. Parents please encourage your children to participate in this important ministry.

Anyone who is interested in joining the music group to sing or play an instrument should speak to Susan after Sunday Mass.
