St Kentigern’s and St Andrew’s Church of Scotland
David Gemmell Ecumenical Initative

For many years St Kentigern’s and St Andrew’s Church of Scotland, Clermiston, have “done things together” in what became an increasingly friendly and close ecumenical relationship. In 2008, following the unexpected death of Mgr David Gemmell, a former priest of St Kentigern’s, it was decided to dedicate all our ecumenical activities in honour of Mgr David’s memory. And so, on the evening of 16 January 2009, close to the Feast of St Kentigern, the David Gemmell Ecumenical Initiative was officially launched at a Mass in St Kentigern’s at which His Eminence, Keith Patrick, Cardinal O’Brien was the principal concelebrant and in the presence of the Moderator of the Edinburgh Presbytery of the Church of Scotland, Rev Andrew Anderson.

The ecumenical initiatives in which our parishes share include a Lenten and Advent service or study group; an annual pilgrimage, which this year (2015) was to Lindisfarne and the opportunity to come together socially in a variety of social events.

Corstorphine Churches Together: St Kentigern’s is also a member of Corstorphine Churches Together and parishioners take part in the annual Good Friday Procession Carrying the Cross.
